What is BMI (Body Mass Index)?
Body Mass Index (BMI) is a numerical value derived from your mass (weight) and height. It is widely used by doctors and health professionals as a quick screening tool to categorize a person as underweight, normal weight, overweight, or obese.
How to Calculate BMI?
Calculating your BMI manually is simple if you know the formula. Our tool uses the standard Metric system:
The Formula: BMI = Weight (kg) / (Height (m) * Height (m))
Step-by-Step Example:
If a person weighs 60 kg and is 158 cm (which is 1.58 meters) tall:
Multiply the height by itself: 1.58 * 1.58 = 2.4964
Divide the weight by that result: 60 / 2.4964
Result: BMI is 24.0 (Normal Weight)
